Our West Coast Trip Disected

I’m so excited to finally share the photos from our recent trip to San Francisco and Napa. I tried to capture all that we experienced, but it seems I missed quite a lot. Isn’t that always the case?
We arrived in San Fran to frigid temps + foggy skies. It was lovely after all our humidity in Chicago but so weird to wear coats and scarves again! In fact, it was so chilly we certainly could have worn berets in homage. Of course will all our eating we had to walk. Some of my favorite stops included omnivore books and the amazing paxton gate’s curiosities for kids.

 While we waited for our table we shared a bottle of wine on the sidewalk, shivering but sated. We all agreed that it felt very European. Our friends Nicole + JP (she of the awesome design womb) immediately took us under their gourmet wing driving us to our first stop, pizzeria delfina, for the most delicious pizza ever.

What a quirky find. We ate delicious meals at Flour + Water, Tartine + even Ike’s where BCL was introduced to the Fat Bastard sandwich and San Fran’s never-ending two hour lines. Was it worth it? Yes.

After saying goodbye we drove to Napa, specifically Yountville. We stayed at the bardessono, one of the most design savvy, eco-friendly hotels I’ve ever seen. I can’t tell you how many times I said, “I wish we could move to Napa and crush grapes.”

 Our first order of business was to eat at the french laundry. How can I describe this eating experience? Maybe I’ll just say that it was all I’d imagined a little bit more. For those that followed my adventures on twitter you know I was especially in awe of their garden.

Our first order of business was to eat at the french laundry. How can I describe this eating experience? Maybe I’ll just say that it was all I’d imagined a little bit more. For those that followed my adventures on twitter you know I was especially in awe of their garden. I found out later that Thomas Keller just put it in as something to look at, but now they serve nearly everything grown there on the menu. Just a few ideas of what we ate: Cauliflower panna cotta with white sturgeon caviar, Santa rosa plums with honey mascarpone and vanilla bean, New Bedford sea scallops with garden squash, garlic chips and powerade, and a various other delicious treats.
Following the French Laundry we had a day of tasting throughout Napa. Some of our favorite stops: kuleto winery for their views (vast and magical),schramsberg for their history and the multitude of sparkling wines, frank family vineyards for their Cabernet, and rutherford for their hilltop picnic spot.

It was such a wonderful trip, I only wish we could have stayed longer.
